The average price for these transactions was up 19 per cent year-over-year to $431,509. Sales and average price increases represent both increased demand for ownership housing and the base year effect, which involves a comparison of economic recovery this year to a period of economic decline last year. February 3, 2010 -- From September through December 2009, TREB Members reported 3,859 lease transactions for condominium apartments and townhouses through the Multiple Listing Service (MLS®) – up 12 per cent from the 3,433 recorded during the same time in 2008. Condominium apartment transactions, which accounted for over 90 per cent of the total, were also up by 12 per cent. See details.

January 6, 2010 -- Greater Toronto REALTORS® reported 87,308 MLS® transactions in 2009 – a 17 per cent increase over 2008. This result included 5,541 sales in December. Rental Transactions Up; Prices Trend Lower
October 5, 2009 -- During the latest reporting period, TREB Members reported 5,673 leased transactions, up 32 per cent from the 4,286 recorded during the same time-period in 2008. However, while volume increased, average rents fell in most categories. For example, one-bedroom apartments rented for an average of $1,439 per month, down 4 per cent from the $1,494 recorded during same period last year. Two bedroom apartment units rented for an average of $1,873, down 1 per cent from the $1,885 recorded during the May to August 2008 period. See details.

June 3, 2009 -- In the first four months of 2009, TREB members reported 3,945 leased condominium apartments, representing a 38% increase over the 2,854 units leased during the same period in 2008. Almost 93 per cent of all residential rental transactions on the MLS® involved condominium apartments.

As soon as we tell them about the City’s proposal to charge a second and transfer tax they ask us what it will cost them and what they can do to stop this bad idea.
